Fish Migration
Due to European legislation, Europe's wide rivers and waterways need to satisfy a series of ecological criteria and specifications. However on the subject of fish migration , legislation does not exist as yet and there is in general a lack of guidance, knowledge and experience on this theme.
Thus, the partnership wants to exchange knowledge on fish migration and develop knowledge on crucial points to influence policy. One of these crucial points relates to fish passages in Mediterranean Rivers. There is a lack of knowledge and criteria for typical Mediterranean river species, and their respective fish passages.
Taking all of these issues into account, the partnership will develop a practical manual of best practice on how to deal with fish migration problematic, consisting of the following parts:
The effectivity of current fish passages will be examined and new types of fish passages will also be developed, based on the knowledge acquired through our operation. The partnership will carry out an efficiency study on several types of fish passages in our diverse partner areas. In this study several concepts used in different countries will be compared and contrasted. On the basis of these results new types of fish passage will be developed.
